why aren’t the robots working in the mines and oil fields and handling toxic chemicals or picking plastic out of the ocean? why are they writing emails and making powerpoint presentations? what the hell are we doing

a new industrial revolution is coming, the scale of which we can't comprehend

This news coming on same day as Anthropic announcement that local AI models running on home appliances, like refrigerators, will be able to self-replicate, should remove any remaining doubts about how AI can take down parts of society pretty quickly. https://t.co/pTovgqBvf4

We need to face the fact that there’s already a huge number of people, especially younger people, who talk to AI like it’s their friend and carry on near constant conversations with it. Israeli company Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and U.S. firearms manufacturer SIG SAUER have completed a live-fire test of the "FIRE STORM 250," a vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) drone armed with an M250 light machine gun.
During the test, the drone reportedly hovered over a simulated battlefield, identified targets using its onboard camera and engaged them in single-shot and semi-automatic firing modes. According to IAI, the trials also assessed the system's accuracy and built-in safety features.
The M250 machine gun is mounted on SIG SAUER's remotely operated MICROLIGHT weapon station. The combined weight of the station, gun and ammunition is approximately 24 kg (53 lb). The drone can reportedly remain airborne for up to three hours while carrying 200 rounds of ammunition.
The system provides operators with live video, target tracking and fire-control information. A human operator must authorize every shot before the weapon can fire.
Major threshold passed. Almost all cars will be electric in the future. https://t.co/ZGDptzVv6H

There will be no way all cars or almost all cars can be electric unless we find massive quantities of the materials needed for the batteries and/or ways to recycle them/dispose of them.
As a side anyone seen the info on the new gas/electric hybrid trucks Ford and Dodge are planning to release sometime in 2027? Supposed to have 700 mile range and the same power as a pure gas engine (not diesel or the HD/Super duty models).
That alone would be a huge push into the truck market. I know for those that actually use their truck the electric models were not an option really as the power wasn't there or the range when towing and that hurt sales.
Not sure if it is enough for me to get one but it could put it into the option category at least.
