Build the wall!
What we are doing now is not effective and is a waste of resources, and incarcerates many who otherwise are not criminals. I know you wouldn't be in favor of implementing what is necessary to shut down drug trafficking - so why continue what we are doing? Prohibition didn't work, and this isn't either.Wichitabear said:
While I understand your answer and want to support it, I just can't and don't want to legalize drugs.

Drove along the 62 mile El Paso border wall for about half an hour yesterday.
Actually there are 3 barriers . Shorter ( older ) fences topped with razor wire in front and behind the newer - larger steel barrier. Large deep ditch running between the newer steel barrier and last old fence.
Border Patrol vehicles parked alongside the wall about every 2-4 miles mixed in with the occasional El Paso Police car .
Anyone on this message board who thinks walls 'don't work' or would be 'easy to climb over' should see this .
No way in Gods green earth is anyone getting into the US through the barriers I saw.
Hell if someone did somehow manage to overcome all those obstacles they should be fast tracked immediately into US Army Special Forces .
The problem is whether you draw a line on certain drugs, and if so, where and who does it?TexasScientist said:We've never been willing, as a free republic, to implement and take the drastic action necessary to stop the inflow of drugs into the country. In the face of that unwillingness, the only resonable option is to legalize, regulate and tax the use of drugs. That will take the profit away from the criminal element, and give us the ability to better manage drug use, and eliminate the cost of unecessary incarceration.quash said:fadskier said:
and feel free to ask my family in Harlingen if it is not a drug issue...
Your family is a tiny, tiny, tiny, sample.
The Drug War is a failure. Tying it to the border wall doesn't change that. We incarcerate an insane amount of people.
Drug traffic has decreased, not because of walls but because of two main things: a legal drug market in most states, and the application of technology at the border. See the big bust just this week.

The good news is it looks like it may be a very long time before there is a Democrat in the White House.
How have you reached this conclusion ?Vidmate iTunes Notepad++Quote:
I have a bad feeling that will happen regardless of what Trump does. The democrats have no problem setting new and dangerous precedents.

So if drugs are decriminalized what happens? Drug prices drop? Cartels go out of business? People shop locally? Police turn a blind eye? We tax it? People die?quash said:LIB,MR BEARS said:
For years now, both houses of Congress have been more than willing to cede powers to the executive branch because of political expediency.
Congress is weak and getting weaker. It's easier to get re-elected when you haven't taken a firm stand.
This has occurred on both sides of the aisle.
Been saying this for years. The increase in executive power does not come from the Constitution, it comes from Congress.

so increasing the supply likely isn't a viable option.
and the tax revenue hasn't been anywhere close to what was anticipated. taxes are so high - the illegal market drugs are cheaper - so it stays in place. and these growing fields become toxic wastelands - doing serious damage to the environment.
so that argument doesn't work either.
and then there's the fentanyl problem. I dont think anyone advocates for legalizing fentanyl??
our friends in China are happy to supply endless amounts.

common sense dictates certain things should be illegal.
now - fair trade in thin sliced roast beef - topped w melted cheddar cheese or not - your choice - is OK. and your personal choice as to style and presentation of your french fried potato - or no potato at all. again, your personal choice.
