For years now, both houses of Congress have been more than willing to cede powers to the executive branch because of political expediency.

Congress is weak and getting weaker. It's easier to get re-elected when you haven't taken a firm stand.

This has occurred on both sides of the aisle.

Been saying this for years. The increase in executive power does not come from the Constitution, it comes from Congress.

So if drugs are decriminalized what happens? Drug prices drop? Cartels go out of business? People shop locally? Police turn a blind eye? We tax it? People die?
drugs are already basically legal - certainly widely available. hasn't reduced the problem. hasn't stopped people from OD'ing. millions dead.

so increasing the supply likely isn't a viable option.

and the tax revenue hasn't been anywhere close to what was anticipated. taxes are so high - the illegal market drugs are cheaper - so it stays in place. and these growing fields become toxic wastelands - doing serious damage to the environment.

so that argument doesn't work either.

and then there's the fentanyl problem. I dont think anyone advocates for legalizing fentanyl??

our friends in China are happy to supply endless amounts.

But what about private contracts and free market capitalism and the gold standard and rule of law?????
not wise to hand a 2 year old a loaded gun. and drug addled people are about as clueless and reckless as a two year old.

common sense dictates certain things should be illegal.

now - fair trade in thin sliced roast beef - topped w melted cheddar cheese or not - your choice - is OK. and your personal choice as to style and presentation of your french fried potato - or no potato at all. again, your personal choice.

If you're right, then we should go back to prohibition.
You do know, right, that when Prohibition ended, certain spirits remained illegal because they were too dangerous to be allowed, such as absinthe ?

You can buy asbsinthe. Moonshine is still illegal. Legalize and regulate drugs, the same as alcohol. We'll be much better off and our prisons won't be overcrowded. It's been successfully done in Europe. What we're doing now is not sustainable or successful.

Not the original recipe, no you cannot. I suppose you can buy the ingredients and make your own, but that's a different dog from our discussion.

Yeah the number of fatal drug overdoses nationwide would be sure to drop if only we would make access to such dangerous chemicals easier.

We live in a country where a large percentage of the population aren't very smart and don't have the ability to take care of themselves

They don't want to be 'free'. They want to be taken care of and told what to do

The libertarian utopia would be awesome in a homogeneous society of people that knew the difference between harming themselves and feeling good and understood the need to care for yourself

That's an appropriate riposte for a man so dishonest he bristles at being reminded most abortions are for convenience, and abortion for convenience is morally heinous.

Babies have a right to life.
even when their mothers want them dead?
Its none of your business and you can't read minds.
Evil Waco is back, I see.

At least Good Waco showed up for a post ...
Thats a gd non-answer
That's an appropriate riposte for a man so dishonest he bristles at being reminded most abortions are for convenience, and abortion for convenience is morally heinous.

I'm glad you support women, Waco. But your contempt for the dead innocent victims of abortion is unconscionable.
I think almost everyone supports a woman's right not to get pregnant or to get pregnant. I also defend a women's right not to have sex...based on the biological reality that she could get pregnant.

That's what the average German was thinking between 1935-1945

They want to be 'taken care of' ....but not told what to do.

Hard core losers just live on a government handout while pontificating on the internet.

Who are you talking about, big man?

Slobs who do nothing but sit on their ass pontificating on the internet while collecting government handouts .

Clear ?
Nope. You talking to me?

Wouldn't be fair....have no idea if you sit .

You have no idea about a lot of things but that never slows you down.

What govt handouts do you think I'm collecting?

You probably qualify for more than you get

Disability is one you, Cinque and Waco et al should pursue with fervor

That one jumps out immediately

Wrong. Glad it works for you.

Right. And yet you think you know something about me. So, what handouts?

5/27/1907 - President Theodore Roosevelt reserved a strip of land on the southern US border as necessary for border security. 60 FEET of land was allocated (excluding that land which was already lawfully owned). There is NO CLAIM by left that the government will be taking land to build the wall.

You're thinking of the land sought by Bush for the fence.

"But much of the land the Bush administration requested was already owned by the federal government, said Gerald S. Dickinson, an assistant professor of law at the University of Pittsburgh who focuses on land use and constitutional law. The wall Trump wants to build would be different, he said."

10% of TX has a fence vs 80-90% for the other three states. Need a wall all over the Big Bend National Park.

That is the most unguarded part of the border by far. No fencing for about 500 miles from El Paso, TX to Laredo, TX.

2000+ crossing per day.
