I remember watching something years ago in the British Parliament on C-SPAN. Someone was calling out the PM for not debating the opposition before an election. The response from the PM was that the party who expects to lose always challenges the party who expects to win to a debate and the party who expects to win always declines. It was pretty funny.
I don't follow their business very closely but I do know that English politics are some of the most entertaining to actually watch, with some epic disses and comebacks.
Holed up in a Mexican hotel I had one English language channel. Watched the Tour de France and Parliament, The debates were fast, skilled, witty and well informed. Then the backbenchers got up. Wow. Now I know where Monty Python got their material for the
twit skit. “Life, liberty, and property do not exist because men have made laws. On the contrary, it was the fact that life, liberty, and property existed beforehand that caused men to make laws in the first place.” (The Law, p.6) Frederic Bastiat
