Trump is making it obvious his time has passed.

Let that process work, we've got plenty of time before the Primaries.

Obsessing on why Trump has to be the nominee is foolish, but attacking the tens of millions who think right now that Trump is the GOP's best hope would be abysmally stupid.

You want to win over the Trump voters, not make enemies of them.

DeSantis is taking the right lead. Pay more attention and follow.
They are not open to being won over. They are only open to Trump moving forward as Nominee. That is the problem. Negotiating with MAGA is you give them everything, you get nothing or you will be attacked. That is a very difficult group to negotiate. Short of Trump not being available, there is no winning over. This is like Putin. Unless Putin is gone, there is no negotiating.

Not true. Lots in my circle have switched over to Desantis from Trump. We dont want RINOs #1. We want someone to stand up to evil #2. If you can check those 2 boxes then we'll listen. If you can't - dont bother.
Come on, RINO is anyone that works within the system. If you compromise to get something accomplished, you are a RINO. The whole system is set up on compromising, MAGA does not tolerate that. if you do, you are a RINO...
Wrong. RINO is someone who votes for a Democrat spend bc they naively imagine they will be 'liked' by their Democrat colleagues and invited to nice parties.

RINO is someone who refuses to meet with their own constituents, because they don't accept criticism from common people.

RINO is someone who thinks the Founding Fathers should be ignored.

F that.

No surprise.

Handwriting was on the wall when Dems raided the house of an ex president for the first time in US history.

Dems knew there would be no political repercussions….they feared no voter pushback .

Your post did not say "President", it said 'blindly support the biggest a-hole'.

But if we are going to limit it to Presidents, that 'distinction' would go to LBJ or Wilson, with Andrew Johnson in 3rd place.

Hate to interrupt the insults and name-calling, but this is a Republican failure of epic proportions.

It's not even certain they'll take the House. I think they will, but it's amazing how weak their gains will be.

The key was that the party focused on getting its MAGA base out to vote. But it cost them the votes of independents and young people.

Republicans had the chance to turn from Trump multiple times before. They failed to do so.

There's no reason to think they will now.

You are trying way too hard to give reasons why the GOP needs to stick with Trump.

You are undoubtedly right that "base enthusiasm" is the most important factor. You are missing the point that even the GOP base is having a hard time getting enthusiastic about Team Orange.

To put it in terns Donald can relate to, he is like the TV series you once would not miss and can now live without. He jumped the shark.

Bingo. He completely misses the point that only Trump's sycophants are excited to turn out the vote for trump or his candidates. It's a large swath of excitable people, no question, and they're loud, but it's not the base. Many republicans would rather sit him than vote for Trump's candidates. I know a number of them that did exactly that.

Trump is poison, and has no chance to win a general election. Until we realize that, we will remain losers.

You have completely missed the point. Trump sat this one out, as requested. How do we turn out his base if he's not out beating the bushes?

Numbers are pretty clear.
Dems turned out their base.
We didn't.

2022 is a repeat of 2012, where Romney Campaign and RNC leaned on the Tea Party, which had led the charge to a massive mid-term win in 2010, to stay quiet. They did. They also stayed home. And the Dems turned out their base.

It takes BOTH money and grassroots to win elections…..
The facts and numbers don't say anything of the sort. Trump appeared at numerous rallies in support of his candidates the last year. He was jetting all over the country supporting his MAGA candidates. Is it your position that if he had done that moreso it would have resulted in a Republican win? What does it say when his candidates lost despite his throwing his weight behind them?

And if the base didn't show up despite all of Trump's rallies, does that not tell you a little something about Trump?

Your choice for President already lost one election. He's less popular than he was 2 years ago, and his candidates just faced a resounding defeat in the midterms. What alternate reality do you live in that makes you think that Trump is going to magically do in 2024 what he couldn't in 2020 and 2022?

I generally like your posts and consider them well-reasoned, but I think your love of Trump has had the opposite effect on you that it had on his detractors Trump is toxic. The sooner we realize that, the better. You've now had 2 election cycles to learn this fact. I hope it doesn't take a third.

You must be giddy, pastor. What leftist programs will you be excited to see pass if the Dems retain the House? Maybe a law that says prebuscent kids can start transitioning before they reach puberty? Maybe an abortion act that legalizes the killing of babies up until birth? Maybe completely open borders? Maybe higher tax burdens on all, and replace capitalism with socialism?

What excites you, pastor?

I wish it was that simple. I don't know the answer, and the experts will be studying this election for a long time because there is nothing like it. Both parties are confounded. Nationally and in the key states, voters trusted GOP on all the key issues - economy, jobs, inflation, taxes, COVID, education (for the first time in decades), immigration, and crime. The only exceptions were abortion and "democracy", but at surprisingly low margins, and they were well down the list of key issues. Incumbents prevailed. GOP got closer to unseating Dems than Dems did unseating GOP, but close only counts in . . . .

Bingo. MAGA will turn off non-MAGA voters. Can't have people like Greene, Gaetz and Brobert out front. Unless you want to be Perots 3rd party level player.

There is a desire and demand for a moderate conservative party. As I said, Reagan would be a moderate in today's political world.

Exactly right. I've been saying it for years, but the party can be a bigger tent. The old school Repubs and neocons have much more in common with MAGA than they do with the Dems, and there is room for populism and pugilism in the party. As much as they despise Trump, he has expanded the base, brought in conservative blue collar workers, and a Hispanic element to the voting block that really didn't exist before. If the MAGAs and Trump sycophants could let go of their absurd devotion to Trump, and embrace DeSantis, that is someone we could all get behind.

The Dems have absolutely nothing to offer the American people. They've gone completely woke to the point of absurdity. They have alienated moderates and blue dog democrats with their policies. They have literally done nothing right for the last year and a half. Every policy has been a disaster. There is no reason the next election should not be ripe for the taking, if they choose the right candidate (not Trump).
