Well....it looks like consumers are making it clear that a lot of them are not going to pay these higher prices. Something will have to give.

No worries. Trump will be sending tariff rebate checks soon.

Delivered by a local National Guardsman patrolling your neighborhood...

My neighborhood needs no National Guardsmen. Everyone is packing. May use my Trump tariff "refund"check to buy more ammo.

Yeah, it starts with just the bad places...

Start with law enforcement. The Government is here to keep you safe.

Then it becomes checkpoints, usually controlling the intersections. These area are safe, so we want to keep them this way.

Then its too many unaccounted for weapons. Do not bring your weapons out as the Fed troops can't distinguish between you and bad guys.

Yeah, Federalizing cities is a good thing...

Really surprised how quickly the Government has not right in our lives people rolled over on Washington DC. Some even applauding a President for calling in Federal troops to neighborhoods.

Washington is, by its constitutional definition, a federal city.

Yeah, fits the American image of Democracy...

Just what they had in mind...

Is that supposed to be an argument against the observation that Washington is, by definition, a federal city?

Man, I am disappointed with your take on the National Guardsmen. Glad to see Trump taking some action on Washington, D.C. Deployment of troops into this s h !t hole city is a good start. Long past time to crack some heads. This includes 13 year old gangbangers. It is a temporary measure. Trump is not trying to take control of the country by deploying the military. Trump is sending a great message here. Either clean up your city and start enforcing the law or we will do it for you.

I can see the logic. It is a smart move if you want more control, who is going to be against fighting crime?

But, more Federal power is usually not a Conservative, MAGA thing...

By their action and inaction, politicians of both parties like the governors of states and mayors of cities where you find geographically concentrated murder hot spots are against fighting crime.

Sticking national guard troops in Washington is not a case of "more federal power." It is a case of the same federal power that has been in the Constitution since the founding of the United States. I don't even need to believe it is a good idea to add National Guard to the D.C. law enforcement mix or to appoint someone to be in charge of the D.C. police to recognize that fact.

If Biden had done something similar the partisan praising and criticism would be reversed with Democrats doing the praising and Republicans doing the criticizing.

Hot take - I feel safer with the bottom image. I saw a dude pissing on the subway this morning; I'd take national guard over that any day of the week

Is that really the point? That we can tolerate it more than urinating people?

Law enforcement is not doing their job, a legitimate issue no doubt. Something needs to be done, military troops/militia on the streets under Federal control?

That raises a whole issue of Federal Government overstep. The whole Trump campaign by his followers has been that the Federal Government is too involved in our lives. This is better?

I thought you loved the government and thought they did lots of great things and everything was their responsibility!

At least what Trump is doing in DC is within his constitutional prerogatives. It is the federal city, the only city explicitly mentioned in the constitution. It is under the authority of the federal govt. and he is the head of the executive branch. It's pretty much open shut.

Federal troops on city streets? A little too much like South America for me. This whole scenario rings of Pinochet and Chile... Followers loved him, he was the savior. Meanwhile machine guns controlled intersections.

So, no. Outside of a documentable, event driven emergency I do not like to see camo uniforms on City streets...

We need to cut rates massively and quickly.

Jerome Powell is stubborn. The last time interest rates were this high, inflation was 6.5%. Inflation today is 1.8%.

Mortgages, credit cards, and business loans are far too expensive.

The problem is the Fed is in the business of hurting everyone they can so that the biggest companies/banks can come in and absorb more marketshare from the fallout.

I don't hate govt, when it does its job. One of its top jobs is protecting the people. The people of DC are largely happy with what Trump is doing, including Leftists (at least privately) and he's supported by the cops.

The horror stories coming out of DC bear that out.

It's a really interesting topic and I can understand both arguments. I hate big government and I do wish local police departments would start cleaning up our cities.

On the flip side, as many have already stated, D.C. is not a typical city and Trump isn't doing anything outside of his powers.

My hot take was in response to the people saying they are frightened at the sight of National Guard on the streets. I personally would feel much safer if my commute was filled with NG opposed to crackheads screaming at me

Let's see where it goes...

The Congressional action of 1973 gives him the power in DC. Let's see if emergencies pop up in Chicago, New York, Philly, and others. May turn out well, looks like the courts have already gotten a compromise. Maybe, hopefully, this is a shot across the bow.

The color of uniforms seems largely irrelevant to me and I think that the murder rate in D.C. would meet the definition of a "documentable, event driven emergency." Whether exactly what Trump is doing is a good idea is hard to say without seeing a lot of details, but the level of violence in our nations capital merits doing something.

Beef has gotten crazy. Just bought a 13 lb waygu brisket from Costco at $6.00 per pound.

After smoking it will yield about half the original weight. So it's gonna end up being about $12 a pound. Still a hell of a lot better than top end BBQ places charging $38 a pound now.

BBQ prices have gone crazy in the last 6 to 7 years.

Remember when BBQ was a budget meal? Tough pieces of meat that had no real value outside of stew meat, so they were slow cooked forever to make them tender enough.

Now they act like brisket is ribeye.

Same thing for me. Then you pay all those crazy monthly premiums and you go to the doctor and you're still paying out-of-pocket until you meet a crazy deductible. It sucks.

It is beef that is so bad right now. I think there are issues with cattle across the country. Pork butt is a much more economical way to go. I like doing pork loin also. It's about two dollars a pound right now.

With brisket they had USDA Prime for $5.50 per lb and waygu for $6.00 per pound.

Steak is really high right now too. Smoked salmon is a good sub for us when we want something nice right now.

I did not realize until this week that you are a young buck. You said you are my son's age. Sounds like you have already figured it out, but car payments are wealth stealers. Pay off your vehicle and drive it til the wheels fall off.
I have always viewed a personal vehicle as a way to get from point A to point B. Have never viewed what I drive as a reflection of my social status.

Ten years from now you will have a pile of money and your high rolling friends will be asking you for a loan. Have the mindset that you don't like owing anybody money.
