It's really simple guys.

Democrats want you to believe it was in insurrection so they can associate all of your ideas of policy and conservatism as evil and unjust.

People who can read a dictionary know it was an insurrection, and it matters because this needs to be a 1 time thing, not every 4 years. We need to be capable of accepting peaceful transfer of power. This insurrection was pathetic but the next doesn't have to be.

Imagine encouraging this under the veil of "it wasn't so bad guys just a tour and some selfies."
no one who has read a book on the subject, or has been formally trained on the subject (as have I) would attempt to make the laughable case that J6 was an insurrection. It meets not a single element, fails at every step of the analytical ladder.

Is it books you have read or the dictionary that defines insurrection? It is simple enough to analyze.

Were government buildings breached in a clear effort to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power? Yes

How do we know that was the intent? They said so and blasted it on twitter to the world

Had they been successful, what would have the result been? The end of democracy

It's just so easy to use the ole noggin a bit. Try it!
This is of course a complete lie.

Even if the 10,000 protestors that day had taken the Capitol and held it for weeks...that is not the "end of democracy".

The Congress has authority in the USA and can meet where it likes...the Capitol building itself is not mentioned in the Constitution.

The Congress could have moved to the IHOP across the river in Arlington Virginia and certified the election. And the winning candidate for President would then have taken power (even if he never set foot in the White House)

It is a crazy thing to hear people argue that our system of government is so fragile that if some protestors take up residence in the Capitol building for more than 2hrs it means the collapse of American democracy.

The Congress, the President, and the Supreme Court don't even need to work out of D.C. or even visit it ever to still be the legitimate wings of the Federal Government.

They can all move to downtown Waco if they want.

guided tour.???? are you freaking nuts? Have you not seen the video? Dude, you are insufferable and brainwashed.

You must not have seen the video, JR. The Shaman was most definitely escorted around by multiple officers….officers opened doorways for him…..etc.

Step away from the Shaman's shrooms and peyote! It is bad for you! clouds your brain!
Like I said, you are talking about a video you obviously did not see. The officers are on tape, for minutes helping him get where he wanted to go.....checking doors, taking him to alternative entrances to circumvent locked doors, actually holding the doors open for him to walk thru. Doesn't make what the shaman did legal, but does vaporize the idea that there was an insurrection going on.

The insurrection narrative is dead as a doornail, JR. You can keep sputtering about it if it makes you feel better, but it it's documented crackpottery at this point.

Yet the insurrectionists keep going to prison.

they are going to jail for seditious conspiracy to commit insurection. There was no active attempt to gain control of the govt, only a plan..

They deserve jail for going as far as they did in the plan but it was still just a plan with no real action on the plan inside the capital building.

Yes the insurrection was pathetic with no real chance of lasting success. However it was a threat to the lives of Congress members and the Capitol police.

No real American wants democracy ended and a dictator installed, but had the insurrectionists somehow succeeded, thats what would have happened.

There are still morons here claiming the election was stolen. The zealots gonna zealot.

Again,

If even a few protestors that day had wanted to kill police or politicians….they could have brought semi-automatic weapons to the Capitol and have done it.

But they didn't.

Why is it that they needed to kill someone? They thought they could accomplish their goals without guns, most of them. If they had thrown out the will of the people, the certified vote, what would it matter if they used words or guns?
how could they have accomplished their goals? How could they have thrown out the will of the people?

Genuine question, I would like to know your thoughts on how they could've possibly succeeded at doing anything other than cause the delay that happened. The protest caused a delay just like the environmentalist who chain themselves to a tree getting bulldozed. Nothing more.
Incompetent people who attempt to rob a bank, even if they had no real prospect of succeeding, are guilty of attempted bank robbery.

An outrageous idea, I know. I'm sure no one here would agree with it.
Nope. ALL democrats are a guilty if one member is a member of BLM, since we now agree BLM is a violent terrorist organization out to fry humans alive. Isn't that how that thinking goes? It was an insurrection because a couple people said some stuff?

Dictionary games are fun.

Disrupt (verb): Interrupt by causing a disturbance or problem.
Riot (verb): Take part in a violent public disturbance.

I can't believe you think this would have been the end of democracy. Talk about a simpleton approach.

You don't and can't overthrow the US government by disrupting a procedure. You can't even alter the results with a disruption. They even voluntarily left. That's how "attempted" their overthrow effort was. In fact, the success or failure of the election certifying procedure isn't even germane to overthrowing the government.

Playing fast and loose with what an insurrection actually is, and the type you are projecting on Jan. 6, it is a similar parallel, so very relevant. People on here are claiming government overthrow and end of democracy. There is a difference between disrupting something and stopping something.

Sage point. If J6 stands as a textbook example of insurrection, we're gonna have a lot of fun the next time Democrats disrupt a SCOTUS hearing.

guided tour.???? are you freaking nuts?

They deserve jail for going as far as they did in the plan but it was still just a plan with no real action on the plan inside the capital building.

Yes the insurrection was pathetic with no real chance of lasting success. However it was a threat to the lives of Congress members and the Capitol police.

I'm saying "attempted" overthrow. That's what it was. That's why some Proud Boys are in prison
You don't and can't overthrow the US government by disrupting a procedure. You can't even alter the results with a disruption. They even voluntarily left. That's how "attempted" their overthrow effort was. In fact, the success or failure of the election certifying procedure isn't even germane to overthrowing the government.
That is of course exactly what the corporate media, academia, and the average American liberal has been arguing-shouting-screaming for the past 2 years.

That forcing a 2hr delay in counting the votes (a procedure of the Congress) was in fact a "insurrection" and "attempted overthrow of the government".

That is either:

1. Outrageous propagandist spin.

2. The Federal government is so weak that a delay in procedure can in fact over throw the government.

But they can not both be true.

Nobody that was in the capital is attached to a plan of insurrection. Those with a plan didnt enact the plan and are being tried for seditious conspiracy. The logical conclusion is there was a riot by the massive crowd and a seperate group seditious conspirators who failed to follow through with their plan.

Almost all of People who were there at the capital should be charged with rioting, tresspassing and destruction of govt property. Most are..

Those that planned should be charged with seditious conspiracy(they are)

No actual insurrection took place

"It was democracy in action"- nancy pelosi(after wisc capital stormed by unionists to stop a vote which was much worse than Jan 6th)

It is ridiculus that you keep pushing something that didnt happen. At no point did anybody inside the capital try to actually do anything to alter or change the govt. there was no threat to democracy. It was a protest turned riot that delayed the vote. Just like a protester who is chained to a tree to stop it being bull dozed.

The rest is political theater and narrative spin by the media.

It doesn't matter.
To be an insurrection it did.
To be an insurrection, having an end game matters a great deal. I'm just saying it doesn't matter for purposes of this discussion.

The answer is a few people conspired to commit insurrection but did not attempt it which is why they are charged with seditious conspiracy. The rest of the ones that were there at the capital did not.. they committed various crimes like property destruction, tresspassing, and rioting. Insurrection is not on the list.

Incompetent bank robbers aren't guilty of trying to topple the financial system, even if the bank was the Federal Reserve.

True and irrelevant
Playing fast and loose with what an insurrection actually is, and the type you are projecting on Jan. 6, it is a similar parallel, so very relevant. People on here are claiming government overthrow and end of democracy. There is a difference between disrupting something and stopping something.

Sage point. If J6 stands as a textbook example of insurrection, we're gonna have a lot of fun the next time Democrats disrupt a SCOTUS hearing.

Again,

If even a few protestors that day had wanted to kill police or politicians%85.they could have brought semi-automatic weapons to the Capitol and have done it.

No one is arguing Jan 6 wasn't criminal.
No, you're arguing that it was only trespassing, disorderly conduct, etc. because those were the only crimes that were successfully committed. The point is that, like an attempted bank robbery, an attempted overthrow of the government is more than just trespassing.

Sure, it's good for the papers and politicians. It defies reality though, whether or not a couple of guys copped pleas to something. And we've used this projection of what that day was to frame a whole host of radical rebels trying to overthrow the government. That's doing more harm to this country than anything that occurred on Jan 6th.

No, in order to win a seditious-conspiracy case, prosecutors have to prove that two or more people conspired to "overthrow, put down or to destroy by force" the U.S. government or bring war against it, or that they plotted to use force to oppose the authority of the government or to block the execution of a law.
