This is of course a complete lie.

Even if the 10,000 protestors that day had taken the Capitol and held it for weeks...that is not the "end of democracy".

The Congress has authority in the USA and can meet where it likes...the Capitol building itself is not mentioned in the Constitution.

The Congress could have moved to the IHOP across the river in Arlington Virginia and certified the election. And the winning candidate for President would then have taken power (even if he never set foot in the White House)

It is a crazy thing to hear people argue that our system of government is so fragile that if some protestors take up residence in the Capitol building for more than 2hrs it means the collapse of American democracy.

The Congress, the President, and the Supreme Court don't even need to work out of D.C. or even visit it ever to still be the legitimate wings of the Federal Government.

They can all move to downtown Waco if they want.

Disrupt (verb): Interrupt by causing a disturbance or problem.
Riot (verb): Take part in a violent public disturbance.

You don't and can't overthrow the US government by disrupting a procedure. You can't even alter the results with a disruption. They even voluntarily left. That's how "attempted" their overthrow effort was. In fact, the success or failure of the election certifying procedure isn't even germane to overthrowing the government.

they are going to jail for seditious conspiracy to commit insurection. There was no active attempt to gain control of the govt, only a plan..

They deserve jail for going as far as they did in the plan but it was still just a plan with no real action on the plan inside the capital building.

Yes the insurrection was pathetic with no real chance of lasting success. However it was a threat to the lives of Congress members and the Capitol police.

You don't and can't overthrow the US government by disrupting a procedure. You can't even alter the results with a disruption. They even voluntarily left. That's how "attempted" their overthrow effort was. In fact, the success or failure of the election certifying procedure isn't even germane to overthrowing the government.
That is of course exactly what the corporate media, academia, and the average American liberal has been arguing-shouting-screaming for the past 2 years.

That forcing a 2hr delay in counting the votes (a procedure of the Congress) was in fact a "insurrection" and "attempted overthrow of the government".

That is either:

1. Outrageous propagandist spin.

2. The Federal government is so weak that a delay in procedure can in fact over throw the government.

Nobody that was in the capital is attached to a plan of insurrection. Those with a plan didnt enact the plan and are being tried for seditious conspiracy. The logical conclusion is there was a riot by the massive crowd and a seperate group seditious conspirators who failed to follow through with their plan.

Almost all of People who were there at the capital should be charged with rioting, tresspassing and destruction of govt property. Most are..

To be an insurrection it did.

No, you're arguing that it was only trespassing, disorderly conduct, etc. because those were the only crimes that were successfully committed. The point is that, like an attempted bank robbery, an attempted overthrow of the government is more than just trespassing.

Sure, it's good for the papers and politicians. It defies reality though, whether or not a couple of guys copped pleas to something. And we've used this projection of what that day was to frame a whole host of radical rebels trying to overthrow the government. No, in order to win a seditious-conspiracy case, prosecutors have to prove that two or more people conspired to "overthrow, put down or to destroy by force" the U.S. government or bring war against it, or that they plotted to use force to oppose the authority of the government or to block the execution of a law.
