Less mask. Less gotcha. Cuz you know they were gonna get pics without masks.

Looks like the science polls have changed and the CDC is going to magically change its mask guidelines.

Imagine the long term ramifications of having public confidence in these institutions being completely shattered.

Oh well. Probably best for much of the rabble to realize the emperor has no clothes. Maybe it will help us in some other areas, as power and process is consolidated in administrative agencies.

The issue underlying the problems is pro government extremism.

The same type of guys on this board who won't put up with people frustrated with unacceptable behavior by our government. A good chunk of the public, especially white female boomers, are pro government extremists that are Loyal to the DC establishment.

Reform is never on the table for them, instead it's always about expansion of bureaucracy.

There is a large gender gap. Women are in favor of larger government/more services about 60/40, and men are in favor of smaller government / less intervention about 60/40. This is very general, but it makes the point bout how much faith you have in government to be able to manage your way out of problems without causing other offsetting problems.

It also runs along generational lines. Most of the silent generation thinks the government should do less. Boomers and Gen X were about evenly split (the gender gap is built into that). Gen Z and Millennials are extremely pro government intervention. They're naive enough to believe the government can really fix most problems without causing more.

The stats I've read are all mostly pre-Covid panic fustercluck. Would be interesting to see how that has affected these general trends.

Exactly. Pundits have been predicting that the "science" would change around the SOTU as Biden's poll numbers continue to hit historic lows. It will be interested to see how the Mask Formation Psychotics will react: are they so "all in" on masks that they'll ignore the party line or just believe "science" is whatever he left tells them.

The same pundits who were predicting that the state of emergency would be prolonged indefinitely to keep everyone in fear and increase the government's power. The reactions are very revealing here. When the pandemic was in fact worsening and we were urged to take precautions, the experts were accused of politicizing. When the pandemic gets better and we're advised to relax, the experts are accused of politicizing. Occam's Razor is never applied: when it looks like the policy is appropriate, maybe the policy is actually appropriate. There's an inability to see Covid as anything but a political issue, and more than that, an inability to imagine anyone else seeing it as anything but a political issue. All from those accusing others of politicizing.

I once did, but it's now hard to respect someone so vociferously in favor of vaccine mandates, authoritarianism and govt. overreach. its difficult to respect someone so willing to betray his purported deeply held beliefs.

I was traveling last week for a court case, which required me to fly from Houston to Charlotte, then Charlotte to Pittsburgh, then drive to Washington, PA, for the case. After the case I came back home the reverse way.

I had some layover time at each stop, so I got to see some of the towns. The airports still have a mask mandate in effect, and on the planes we were all required to wear masks. But Houston outside the airport does not have the mandate, while Charleston and Pittsburgh do, but Washington PA had no mandate in effect. Also, in several places (the Pittsburgh airport and the Washington, PA courthouse) the mandate was in effect but was often very loosely observed; it was common to see masks worn under the chin like a bib in both places.

Charlotte by far had the strictest enforcement procedures with print and speaker announcements about the
Penalty for Non-Compliance' repeated often. Pennsylvania seemed to take a passive aggressive approach, where the masks were officially required but there was no mention of masks outside the airport and no one seemed to consider masks a big deal.

This all reminded me that there is the official line, but also the public mood to consider. Masks are a good idea in certain places, but making them mandatory was just stupid and provokes resentment in every demographic I could see.
