I've been asking this question for a while now.100 thousand people can die of the flu and we don’t bat an eye. No measures are taken. Nothing is done. It’s barely discussed. But the attitude towards COVID is that no amount of death is tolerable. No risk is acceptable. This simply makes no sense at all.

Why aren't those who are concerned over COVID previously showing the same level of concern over flu? You weren't urging people to get flu vaccines, wear masks or social distance.
If your standards don't apply to everything, you're a hypocrite. End of story.
We're clearly a country of half truths, stereotypes and hysteria.
I suspect it is because it is novel.
Imagine if we introduced a technology that would allow rapid point-to-point transportation but we said it would kill about 30,000 people per year. A lot of folks would not sign up for it, but we get in our cars on a daily basis.
I can't find specific numbers quickly, but I suspect that the risks associated with COVID for vaccinated individuals are a most on par and likely somewhat less than those associated with the flu.
We are in a different phase, but not what some public health officials think. The vaccines make COVID only slightly more important as a public health issue in the United States than polio. Get the vaccination rates up and we will not have overrun hospitals anywhere. For the vaccinated, COVID tends to not be as bad as a case of the flu. It'a time to be done with this talk of "more restrictions" and "lockdowns."
