Repeat after me: shots are effective, masks are effective, the government response is effective.
Even the Garden Gnome acknowledged the other day that virus gonna virus.
The shots are effective & masks can help
Then why don't they?
The shots help tremendously. Masking data seem to be mixed and inconclusive.
The masks are for the benefit of the unvaxxed, not the wearer of the mask.
To make them more emotionally able to cope?
Because the vaxxed may have a subclinical case and be spreading a virus that could be devastating to the unvaxxed.
LOL. Were you this concerned about the Swine Flu or SARS a few years ago? Give me a break.
He just got through saying he does not choose to wear a mask. Where are you going with this line of questioning?
Just show me your freak out posts when the Swine Flu was going around. Then I will know your response is the same even when people are not being whipped into a frenzy by the media.
You make it sound like Swine Flu and Covid are equally not dangerous. Is that your intention?
What I make it sound like is that the reaction to covid is an overreaction.
There have been overreactions by government.
And underreactions by individuals.
Don't forget about the overreactions by individuals because of the overreaction by the media.
The real threat to personal freedom has been because of the overreaction by gov't, not so much by the underreaction by individuals. Certainly, as a Libertarian you would agree.
The pandemic has exposed the truth by clearly showing which side values freedom and which side believes it to be in the way.
Yes and no.
Has the govt reaction hindered my freedom? Yes.
Has the underreaction by individuals affected me? Yes.
I live less than a mile from the county line. My county has a 28% vaccination rate, the next county over has a 10% rate. Hardly anybody around here wears masks or observes social distancing. Our ICUs are full and new patients are being shipped out. We are operating in pre-pandemic mode.
I got the Moderna jab. I have about 95% protection from Covid, plus the added benefit of getting a milder case should I get infected. I don't want to get infected, that's why I got jabbed and why I will get a booster. While I interact with people more since getting vaccinated I am still not ready for a 2019 style of social interaction. But neither am I doing 2020 again, where I worked from home and stayed out of most businesses. 2022 will be different from both 2019 and 2020.
When I go out in public I assume the majority of people around me are unvaccinated. I then assume there are low odds, but non-zero, that anybody is infected. My job used to involve a fair amount of handshaking and during cold season I would avoid as much of that as I could. That's no longer part of my job but I still have acts I restrict under current circumstances.
I'm not feeling all threatened by this. I take no schadenfreude when I see yet another story about a Covid death involving a vocal anti-vaxxer.
I am mildly impacted by the underreaction of others.
