Colds are caused by coronaviruses and rhinoviruses Makes sense.
Narrative is changing. Virus no longer as scary as it used to be. Must be a political need to leave folks alone.
I said all this early summer '20. Can't steal life and development from children, people need to be productive to be healthy, just protect the vulnerable, consider the mental/healthcare/economic costs of shutting down, consider "from" vs "with" when looking at these stats, this will become endemic, never go away, vaccines haven't driven away the flu, etc... We just have to learn to live with it.
Buddies, including some left wingers, told me: "people will eventually get there - it will just take a while - they're scared."
I thought it would take a few months. I didn't think it would take TWO DAMN YEARS...
Our institutions and media have caused incalculable damage. We are in a sorry, sorry state.
Bottom line is a lot of people benefitted greatly in the short term from this pandemic. Tech companies, pharma companies, large cap companies generally, govt institutions and actors found themselves suddenly exceedingly important and got to flex, media (loves the fear porn), etc. Upper class and upper middle class living on investments or the laptop economy did just fine. And we were all willing to let young people, working class, small businesses, kids in bad or struggling families, etc. take all the hits. Entire series of events has been beyond shameful. Now, finally, enough people are sick of the hassle and theater that common sense has to prevail...
This is a virus with an extremely high survival rate and reasonable predictability regarding who is really at risk (and it is not young people). Imagine if some really bad **** hit the fan. Imagine what we, the American people, would be willing to immediately sacrifice on the altar of the nanny state for the illusion of safety.
